Event Report: YLEA Youth Advocacy Tour in Kumba

The Youth Advocacy Tour organized by Young Leaders Empowerment Action (YLEA) in Kumba at Government Bilingual High School, Kumba received an enthusiastic response from the audience, assured by the support of the staff of GBHS Kumba.
The program commenced with a dynamic introduction by Taku Gilbert, a valued member of YLEA’s team. He provided insights into YLEA’s mission and engaged the audience in discussions about the challenges faced by youths in their daily lives. Taku shared personal experiences, emphasizing the importance of navigating through challenges and adopting positive practices to overcome them, including strategies to resist peer pressure and avoid negative influences.

The main speaker of the day, Dr. Abeng Nobert, a respected medical doctor from Mamun Hospital, Kumba, delivered a compelling talk on drug abuse. Dr. Nobert discussed the different types of drugs, their adverse health effects, and the role of peer pressure in leading youths towards illicit substances. He emphasized the importance of maintaining positive friendships and healthy lifestyles, accompanied by impactful visuals depicting the consequences of drug abuse. Interactive discussions further reinforced the message, with students actively participating and posing questions to Dr. Nobert.
Ebai Derrick, another dedicated team member and engaging speaker, provided additional insights into avoiding drug use and negative influences. He concluded by inviting students to participate in YLEA’s upcoming youth training programs, encouraging them to take proactive steps towards personal development and empowerment.
The event’s success was attributed to the strong contributions of the staff of GBHS Kumba and YLEA team members, including Ebai Derrick, Taku Gilbert, and Tanyi Irene, who facilitated bridging talks and ensured a smooth rollout of the program.
