Event Report: YLEA Youth Advocacy Tour in Kumba
Date: Thursday, 27th February 2024
Venue: Government High School Fiango, Kumba
The Youth Advocacy Tour organized by Young Leaders Empowerment Action (YLEA) in Kumba at Government High School Fiango received an enthusiastic response from the audience, thanks to the assurance and support from the school staff.
The tour accommodated the large population by holding sessions in two different halls, both featuring similar programs. The sessions commenced with a compelling introduction by Ebai Derrick, a resourceful member of YLEA’s team. He provided an overview of YLEA’s mission and engaged the audience with personal anecdotes about overcoming peer pressure and social challenges during his upbringing.

The highlight of the event was the insightful presentation by Dr. Abeng Nobert, a respected medical doctor from Mamun Hospital, Kumba. Dr. Nobert delivered a powerful talk on drug abuse, highlighting the different types of drugs and their adverse health effects. He emphasized the role of peer pressure in leading youth towards illicit drugs and provided strategies for maintaining positive friendships and healthy lifestyles. Interactive discussions further reinforced the importance of avoiding drug use and its detrimental impact on individuals and communities.
Taku Gilbert, a dynamic team member and captivating speaker, shared techniques for avoiding drug use and negative peer influences. He also extended invitations to YLEA’s upcoming youth training programs, encouraging students to participate in empowering initiatives.
YLEA extends its gratitude to:
– The Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) of Meme division for authorizing the activity.
– The Delegation of Secondary Education for their consent and provision of helpful resources.
– Dr. Abeng Nobert and Taku Gilbert for their insightful presentations and valuable contributions.
