Event Report: YLEA’s Youth Advocacy Tour Kumba

The Youth Advocacy Tour organized by Young Leaders Empowerment Action (YLEA) in Kumba at Government High School Nkamlikum was met with a massive turnout, thanks to the assurance and support from the school staff.
The event commenced promptly at 1pm with an opening address from Mme. Arrey Sandrine, the vice principal of GHS Nkamlikum. Her powerful call to attention resonated with the brilliant students, highlighting the importance of the upcoming events and the potential benefits of applying the lessons learned in their futures and communities.
Dr. Asonganyi, a respected medical doctor from Kumba District Hospital, delivered an impactful talk on drugs, addressing the various types of drugs and the detrimental health effects of drug abuse. He emphasized the role of peer pressure in leading youths towards illicit drugs and provided insights on maintaining positive friendships and leading healthy lives. The interactive session saw Dr. Asonganyi addressing questions posed by the students.
Mr. Shengang Richard, the manager of Ocean City Radio, Kumba, shared his insights on the societal impacts of drug abuse on children and their aspirations. He encouraged the students to strive for personal growth and provided guidance on becoming valuable members of their communities.
Head of the counseling department at GHS Nkamlikum, Mr. Enang Kingsley, along with YLEA team members Ebai Derrick, Taku Gilbert, Zabze Terence, and Tanyi Irene, facilitated bridging talks to ensure smooth phase transitions and enhance the program’s rollout.
