Phase 1: Inaugural Conference at Kumba City Council
Turnout: 257
On July 5th, 2024, the Young Leaders Empowerment Action (YLEA) kicked off its highly anticipated Youth Summer Program with a dynamic inaugural conference hosted at the prestigious Kumba City Council. The event was graced by distinguished speakers including Pa Kanton, a revered community leader; Mrs. Hannah of Hannah Glow, an entrepreneurial icon; and Mr. Richard from Ocean City Radio, each delivering inspiring talks on youth entrepreneurship and the importance of adding value in today’s economy. Their insights resonated deeply with attendees, laying a solid groundwork for the program’s objectives and aspirations.
The conference not only marked the official commencement of the YLEA’s 2024 program but also set the tone for empowering Kumba’s youth through education, mentorship, and practical skills development. It served as a rallying point for collective action towards equipping young leaders with the tools needed to thrive in the modern world.
Phase 2: Skill Training and Job Placements
Following the impactful conference, Phase 2 of our Youth Summer Program focuses on comprehensive skill development and strategic job placements. We carefully selected 40 enthusiastic youths to undergo rigorous training in Manicure and Pedicure. This initiative aims to equip them with professional skills necessary for successful careers in the beauty industry, fostering economic independence and personal growth.
Simultaneously, 4 talented interns were chosen for specialized journalism training at Ocean City Radio, where they will receive hands-on experience in media production and reporting. This opportunity not only cultivates future journalists but also strengthens community engagement and public discourse.
In addition to skill training, we facilitated job placements for 24 youths across various local organizations. These placements, scheduled to commence on July 20th, 2024, provide invaluable real-world experience and reinforce the participants’ skill sets in practical settings. Our decision to integrate training and placements underscores our commitment to empowering youth through holistic development, preparing them for sustainable livelihoods and meaningful contributions to society.
Phase 3: Final Conference and Continued Support
The culmination of our Youth Summer Program 2024 will be marked by a pivotal final conference on August 24th, 2024. This concluding event aims to empower our trainees with the knowledge and strategies to effectively monetize their acquired skills. Through interactive workshops and expert guidance, participants will learn practical approaches to entrepreneurship and sustainable business practices tailored to their respective fields.
Beyond the conference, we are dedicated to maintaining close monitoring and ongoing support for our program graduates. We will implement a robust follow-up plan to ensure the full implementation of their skills and business plans. This commitment extends our impact beyond training, fostering long-term success and resilience among Kumba’s youth.
The final conference serves as a testament to our collective efforts in nurturing a new generation of skilled, confident, and socially responsible leaders. It reinforces our mission to empower youth through education, mentorship, and practical experience, laying the foundation for a brighter future in Kumba and beyond.
